Media Portfolio blog post #12

In today's post I am going to be diving deeper into the common genre conventions of action/sports drama related films. For starters, most sports related action films are meant to be realistic, and represent real life situations through the use of realistic backgrounds/settings, real personable characters, and a fairly plausible story line. Moreover sports related action films are meant to show how a character develops throughout time, while also demonstrating his intense interaction with others, or the interaction/conflict that he has within himself. Furthermore, there should be a somewhat dramatic story line that is meant to alter the mood of the audience, and appeal to their emotions. Making the character a relatable figure, is also an effective way of moving the audience emotionally, while making the film feel personable. Finally, there has to be some kind of a struggle, whether it occurs internally or physically, they have to experience some type of hardship or pain. To top it off the film should end with a somewhat happy conclusive ending, but in our case that is irrelevant as we are only making the film opening.

Furthermore, the film should be set around an athlete or a main event that is going on. All sports films also must include an athlete, and elements of sporting narration. For our film we wanted to mix in a bit of emotion with our training scene, we wanted to show the struggle that our athlete is facing while training, and how he overcomes that struggle through hard work dedication. Our film opening will also be very realistic as we plan on using real backgrounds, show real fight related training, and actually have our actor perform all of the different training exercises that we will film. Furthermore, we wanted to make our character a relatable fellow, by making him dress simply, and act humbly. Lastly, the story line, we want to make our fighter train as if he is preparing for a huge fight making it also realistic, and entertaining is really our main goal.

There is a synergetic tie between films and sports, and this is such because many all around the world love to watch films that display their favorite game, while also showing a bit of drama, and struggle. Many sports films also display a Utopian view, meaning that they state that if you work hard, abide by the rules, and our a good person, everything will work out well for you in the future. We plan to hint at this in our film opening by suggesting that because our fighter trained so hard, he won his fight. Many sports films also tackle social issues such as poverty, and social injustice. We are still trying to figure out how to incorporate an issue into our film opening, but we do not want to force it in.

Some very successful sports films that mix emotion, and sport elements together are The Blind Side, and even fast girls.

On a further note this is the camera that we plan on using while filming, in addition to our phones, and a Go Pro.We will also back up the SD card every time we finish filming to avoid any mistakes that may occur, while filming.
